Fabricio Coloccini won’t face Club Atlas in Milwaukee tonight.

Newcastle United’s captain missed the pre-season opener against Gateshead last week.

And Coloccini is not in the starting XI, or among the substitutes, for tonight’s game at Miller Park (2am kick-off BST).

United head coach Steve McClaren admitted the captaincy was an “issue” ahead of the game.

But McClaren insisted that the long-serving defender would skipper the side if fit.

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew – who managed Coloccini at Newcastle – has been linked with a move for the 33-year-old.

Midfielder Jack Colback will again captain United in Coloccini’s absence.

And goalkeeper Tim Krul will make his first appearance of pre-season.

NEWCASTLE UNITED: Krul, Janmaat, Williamson, Lascelles, Haidara, Anita, Colback, Sissoko, Gouffran, de Jong, Cisse. Subs: Darlow, Woodman, Ferguson, Bigirimana, Obertan, Aarons, Armstrong, Perez.
