Magpies head coach Steve Bruce could be handed a limited budget for the upcoming transfer window due to the financial impact of Covid-19 and the ongoing takeover saga.
Bruce managed to snap up Ryan Fraser and Jeff Hendrick as free agents last summer – and could be forced to visit that market again.
