Fulham have lodged a £15million bid for Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle.
There was speculation yesterday that the Championship club had tabled an offer for Gayle.
And the Gazette understands that a formal offer has now been made for the 26-year-old, who wasn't involved against West Ham United last weekend.
Leeds United have also enquired about Gayle, but the club has not tabled a bid.
Newcastle would want a bid of closer to £20million for No 9 Gayle, who scored 23 goals last season.
Any sale would be dependent on the club securing a replacement ahead of tomorrow night's transfer deadline.
In any case, Gayle, signed from Crystal Palace last summer, has given no indication that he wants to leave the Premier League club.
Gayle had what manager Rafa Benitez described as a hamstring "issue" earlier this month.
He also missed last week's Carabao Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest through illness, but he returned to training ahead of the West Ham game.
