Liverpool are close to signing £25million-rated Newcastle United midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.
Wijnaldum is keen on a move to Anfield and the 25-year-old is expected to travel to Merseyside ahead of a deal being finalised.
The Holland international wants to leave Newcastle in the wake of the club's relegation from the Premier League.
Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on Wijnaldum, but the odds are now on him moving to Liverpool.
Wijnaldum came off the bench and scored in Saturday's 6-0 win over Bohemian in Dublin.
Asked about transfers after the match, United manager Rafa Benitez said: "We maybe have to sell some players if we have the right offers, but that's always normal."
United are looking for £25million for Wijnaldum, though it is not clear just how much Liverpool have offered for him.
However, it would take a bid in excess of £20million to persuade Newcastle to sell Wijnaldum, signed from title-winning PSV Eindhoven last summer for £14.5million.
Wijnaldum scored 11 goals last season and ended the campaign as the club's top scorer.
