PSV Eindhoven’s Jetro Willems made a flying visit to St James’s Park yesterday – to support close friend Georginio Wijnaldum on his debut.
Wijnaldum scored in Newcastle United’s Premier League season-opening 2-2 draw against Southampton.
The 24-year-old joined United from PSV in a £14.5million deal last month.
And left-back Willems made the short journey to Tyneside from Holland to watch the Holland international play his first competitive fixture for the club.
Willems posted a photograph of himself on board a flight to Newcastle on Instagram the day before the match.
The 21-year-old Dutchman, cryptically, said: “Fly to the future.”
Willems is well known to United’s growing Dutch contingent, having represented Holland 15 times at senior level.
Wijnaldum and Willems helped PSV win the Eredivisie title last season.
