The future of the 2019/20 Premier League season is hanging by a thread with the coronavirus outbreak knocking football back to at least April, conceivably longer than that.

If the campaign did end now, or was null and void, Newcastle United would, of course, be safe in the Premier League for another year – the perfect outcome for Mike Ashley’s version of the Magpies.

But what if, somehow, the footballing powers-that-be manage to find a way of the campaign playing out, whether that be extension of the season, or, as we all hope, a reduction of the impact of the COVID-19 virus?
