ALAN Pardew fears that Rob Elliot’s injury will keep him out until the New Year.
The goalkeeper suffered a thigh tear in Newcastle United’s 2-1 win over Premier League leaders Chelsea at St James’s Park on Saturday.
And 21-year-old Jak Alnwick came off the bench to make his debut.
United manager Pardew, already without first-choice goalkeeper Tim Krul, does NOT expect Elliot to recover in time to play any part in the busy festive programme.
“That’ll be him until January,” said Pardew. “Both No1 and No2 are out, and we’re now on No3.”
The club has fixtures against Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Sunderland, Manchester United and Everton this month.
Elliot – who had been playing with a thigh strain – today had a scan.
Alnwick will deputise against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
Newcastle could ask the Premier League for permission to sign a goalkeeper on an emergency loan.
