Rafa Benitez has been given an injury scare ahead of Newcastle United's visit to the Liberty Stadium.

Mbemba – who has started the club's last two Premier League games – scored for DR Congo in last night's 2-2 draw with Tunisia.

However, the defender was taken off in the 59th minute with an injury.

And Mbemba will now return to Tyneside for the problem to be assessed ahead of Sunday's televised game against Swansea City.

United manager Benitez has fielded Mbemba at left-back with Paul Dummett sidelined with a hamstring injury.

The news is offset by the likely return of defensive pair Florian Lejeune and DeAndre Yedlin for the Swansea game.

Yedlin suffered a hamstring injury in pre-season, while Lejeune hurt his ankle in the club's season-opening defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Meanwhile, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ciaran Clark came through last night's World Cup qualifier between Serbia and the Republic of Ireland unscathed.

Aleksandar Kolarov scored the only goal of the game in Dublin.

The result all but booked Serbia a place in next summer's World Cup finals.
