Jack Colback is ready to make a timely return from injury.
The Newcastle United midfielder has been sidelined for almost a month with a knee problem.
But Colback trained for three days this week and is in the squad for this afternoon’s game against Crystal Palace.
United head coach Steve McClaren is without Cheick Tiote for the visit to Selhurst Park, and he had been debating whether to field Siem de Jong, Yoan Gouffran or Siem de Jong in a holding role.
Asked if Colback was in his squad, McClaren said: “Yes, he’s trained for three days with us.”
McClaren, however, will be without defender Massadio Haidara for the next four months.
Haidara has suffered a knee injury in training and will have surgery in France.
“No-one was near him,” said McClaren. “He just slid a ball out and just went down on his knee.”
