Lascelles limped out of yesterday's 2-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park. The club's captain had returned earlier this month after being laid low by coronavirus late last year along with a number of his team-mates following a Covid-19 outbreak at the training ground.

“He’s done his hamstring,” said head coach Steve Bruce. “We’ve found that with some of the lads that have had Covid. they’ve not just been struggling with fatigue, but also muscle-wise. Feddy Fernandez was the same, (Javier) Manquillo was the same, and now Jamaal Lascelles is the same too.

“We have been struggling, but of course there’s no real answers with this complicated virus. We’ll see how he is once things settle down, but I’d imagine he’ll be out for a number of weeks now.”

Ferderico Fernandez missed the Everton game, while Ciaran Clark, back from injury, came off the bench and replaced Lascelles.
