JOHN Carver today refused to name names when asked which players let the club down against Sunderland.
Carver said five players – Jack Colback, Jonas Gutierrez, Daryl Janmaat, Ryan Taylor and Mike Williamson – were “void” of criticism immediately after Sunday’s Wear-Tyne derby defeat.
But the club’s head coach did not directly talk about the performances of the rest of the team at the Stadium of Light.
Stand-in captain Moussa Sissoko was singled out for criticism by many fans unhappy with his performance.
And Carver conducted an inquest into the 1-0 loss this week at the club’s training ground.
Speaking ahead of Monday night’s Premier League game against Liverpool at Anfield, Carver refused to talk about the individuals who he felt let the side down.
“It’s a bit unfair to talk about the ones who did well and who didn’t on Sunday,” said Carver.
“Some weeks for example Jack Colback might be outstanding, and the next he might not be.
“But I’m not going to go into individuals – a lot of players know they didn’t perform.”
