John Carver: Judge me at Newcastle NEXT season!

RELEGATION? ... John Carver.

NEWCASTLE United ARE in talks over a Transatlantic visit to the United States – and John Carver wants to lead the team in its all-American adventure.

Reports this week claimed that the club had agreed to play in a six-team competition in Dallas Fort Worth, Texas, in July.

As far as I’m concerned, I want the opportunity to be able to bring in players. I will have an influence on and be part of the process.

But head coach Carver has insisted that the relegation-threatened club is still to confirm its participation in the tournament, which runs between July 11 and 19.

“Listen, it’s one of the options,” said Carver, whose side are just five points above the Premier League’s relegation zone with four games left to play.

“There are a number of options, nothing’s been confirmed.

“There’s all sorts going on. I’ve been involved in the process, it’s one of the options but nothing’s been nailed down.

“We’ve got, obviously, other games but nothing’s been confirmed yet.”

Carver also added that relegation-threatened Newcastle’s league status would not be a factor in determining where they go in pre-season.

The 50-year-old has been heavily involved in discussions over the club’s pre-season plans and its summer transfer strategy.

And he feels he can only be judged as head coach after working with a full squad – Newcastle have been beset by injuries and suspensions in recent months – and with a full pre-season campaign behind him.

Asked if he deserved a chance to put his stamp on the team in the summer, Carver said: “Absolutely.

“As far as I’m concerned, I want the opportunity to be able to bring in players. I will have an influence on and be part of the process.

“If I did not think that way, I would be wasting my time.”
