John Carver: Siem de Jong won’t face QPR – but his season is NOT over

DUTCH OF CLASS ... Siem de Jong.

SIEM de Jong is out of Saturday’s game against Queens Park Rangers – but his season is NOT over.

De Jong returned from a collapsed lung late last month.

But the Newcastle United’s forward – who had a long spell out early this season after suffering a thigh tear – wasn’t involved last weekend.

And de Jong won’t feature at Loftus Road in a game which could decide the club’s fate, but head coach John Carver is hopeful the 26-year-old will be available for the final game of the season against West Ham United on May 24.

“Siem de Jong and Adam Armstrong aren’t available,” said John Carver. “But Siem’s not injured, he just needs to strengthen his quad muscle, and he could be available for the West Ham game.”

Armstrong, meanwhile, is sidelined with a thigh problem.

Gabriel Obertan, however, is in Carver’s 21-man squad for the QPR game.
