JOHN Carver says he is “still hurting” from Newcastle United’s 1-0 defeat at Sunderland on Sunday.
Jermain Defoe’s first half strike earned the Black Cats a fifth win in a row against their fierce rivals.
Carver has tried to pick his players up on the training ground this week ahead of Monday’s visit to Liverpool, and has described his side’s remaining fixtures as a “seven-game season”.
He said: “Monday was one of the darkest days of my career and I’m still hurting. I have to try to not show it in front of the players
“We have seven games now and it’s a seven-game season. The next couple are tough, but after that they look a bit more favourable.”
