John Carver vows to ‘shut his gob’ at Newcastle – and stay OUT of the headlines

SILENCE ... John Carver.
SILENCE ... John Carver.

JOHN Carver says he’s learnt one thing at Newcastle United over the past few days – the need to keep his gob shut!

Carver, the relegation-threatened club’s head coach, dominated the headlines in last week after claiming defender Mike Williamson had got sent off against Leicester City “on purpose”.

I’ve probably learnt to keep my gob shut. I’m going to from now on. My Press conferences are going to be very basic, bland and simple.

The 50-year-old’s comments about being the “best coach in the Premier League” also came under scrutiny given that the club had just suffered a eighth successive defeat and was perched perilously above the bottom three.

After Saturday’s 1-1 draw against West Bromwich Albion at St James’s Park, Carver said his words had been taken in the “wrong context”.

And Carver has vowed to be more guarded with the media from now on.

Asked what he had learnt last week, he said; “I’ve probably learnt to keep my gob shut.

“I’m going to from now on. My Press conferences are going to be very basic, bland and simple.”

He added: “I’m doing to keep my gob shut and get on with the football.”
