JONAS Gutierrez says pulling on a Newcastle United jersey again after winning his cancer battle would top everything in his career.
Gutierrez was given the all-clear late last year after treatment for testicular cancer in his native Argentina.
The 31-year-old winger, out of contract in the summer, edged closer to a first-team comeback on Tyneside with a 90-minute run-out for the Under-21s on Monday night.
And the Argentina international – entitled to a contract extension at St James’s Park if he plays eight more games – says it would be an “emotional” moment if he was to play for the Magpies again in the Premier League.
“I have played in a World Cup, but if I play again for Newcastle then that will be the best moment of my career,” said Gutierrez.
“To get back after the cancer and chemotherapy, to put all of that behind me, would be a huge moment for me.
“It would be emotional.”
Gutierrez was inundated with messages of support Newcastle fans after he revealed he was battling cancer last September.
