Progress? Not quite. Here’s Liam Kennedy’s player ratings from the 90 minutes at Craven Cottage, with Jonjo Shelvey the pick of the Magpies’ bunch in West London. Merit marks for the likes of Federico Fernandez, Joe Willock (obviously), Sean Longstaff and Matt Ritchie – but not for Allan Saint-Maximin.
1. Martin Dubravka - 7
Very little to do, bar watch a few long-range shots sail past his posts. A quiet afternoon for the Euros-bound keeper. When needed did deal with crosses into the box well. Photo: Stu Forster
2. Jacob Murphy - 7
Some strong defensive recoveries and a burst or two forward. Just lacking in a little quality at times. Had to play a lot more on the back foot in this game than in recent months. Photo: MATTHEW CHILDS
3. Emil Krafth - 7
Most improved player in the second half of the season? Well, wouldn't quite go that far but he's been much, much better. Has really warmed to the right-hand central defensive role in recent weeks. Photo: Ian MacNicol
4. Federico Fernandez - 7
Had to be alert in the second period but repelled everything thrown at him. Much improved. Photo: GLYN KIRK
