Joselu says his first appearance at St James’s Park was an “emotional” experience for him.
The Newcastle United striker scored in Saturday’s 3-0 win over West Ham United.
Joselu was handed a start after Rafa Benitez chose to leave Dwight Gayle out of his squad.
“It’s an important win for us in front of our fans,” said Joselu, signed from Stoke City for £5million this month. “I’m so happy for everyone.
“I found out I was starting before the game. I’m pleased to have got in there. It’s emotional, because I had only been here for 10 days.
“It feels really nice to have scored the goal that helped us to get three points.

“It was even more important we won, because of what had happened in the last couple of games. We had lost them, so we had to win for our supporters. I think we worked very hard to get the three points and we took the opportunities and the points.”
Joselu opened the scoring from close range after Christian Atsu rolled the ball to him.
“A goal is a goal – I need to be there and I was,” said the 27-year-old. “Without goals, you don’t win the games, so as a striker you need to be in the right positions, and I was.
“There are goals in this team. Football’s crazy, because when you lose a few games there is more pressure, people think you have to win, because you can’t afford another defeat.”
