Emmanuel Riviere has undergone knee surgery in France.

The Newcastle United striker has had an op on his cartilage”, according Steve McClaren.

McClaren said: “Manu’s had a small operation on his cartilage in France.”

Riviere, signed from Monaco a year ago, sat out most of pre-season with a knee problem.

McClaren will have midfielder Vurnon Anita available for tomorrow’s game against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.

Anita was stretchered off last weekend after falling awkwardly.

Meanwhile, midfielder Remy Cabella is back in training after recovering from a thigh injury, while defender Paul Dummett (hamstring) is pencilled in to return to the practice pitch next week

McClaren added: “Remy’s back in training, and Paul should be training on Monday.”
