TIM Krul will bid to prove his fitness ahead of Newcastle United’s trip to Chelsea on Saturday when he plays in a behind-closed-doors game against Celtic’s Under-21s this afternoon.
The goalkeeper – who has been out since suffering an ankle injury in training in November – is expected to return to first-team action at Stamford Bridge.
However, first he will line up for United in today’s friendly.
Caretaker manager John Carver confirmed: “Tim Krul is taking part in a behind-closed-doors game v Celtic.
“If he comes through that he will be available for the weekend.”
Jonas Gutierrez is also set to play in the game as he pushes closer to a first-team return.
