Former Newcastle United boss John Carver says that Lee Cattermole believes Sunderland’s squad is one of the strongest he’s ever know.
Sunderland lost 3-1 at home to Norwich City yesterday as their poor start to the season continued.
Dick Advocaat has called a team meeting for this morning and Carver, speaking on Goals on Sunday, said the players need to take responsibility.
“They’ve got enough experience in that dressing room,” said Carver.
“I know Lee Cattermole very well and he’s spoke about this being probably one of the strongest squads he’s been involved with at Sunderland, and on paper it looks reasonably strong, but they have to have some togetherness and they have to come up with a solution.
“The coach can put them in place and say ‘this is what we want’ but at the end of the day I looked at the game quite closely and if you ain’t got that desire to go and close people down, if you ain’t got that desire and that reaction time to do things quickly, not matter what you do on the training ground it isn’t going to work.”
