And Liam Kennedy has picked out the top player performances on the night with Martin Dubravka, Callum Wilson, Matt Ritchie and Joe Willock putting top class shows for the Magpies, who recorded a result that looks to have all but secured their Premier League status for next season with the gap to third bottom now 12 points.
5. Paul Dummett – 8
Scored his first goal in black and white since January 2016 with a towering header. Has been involved plenty with ball at feet in open play, too. Much improved on recent performances. Photo: ALEX PANTLING
6. Matt Ritchie - 8
A typical all-action display down the left. And, for a change, didn’t look open defensively. Two more assists to add to his tally for the campaign. Photo: MICHAEL REGAN
7. Jonjo Shelvey - 6
Some poor distribution early on but warmed into the game. Improved in the second period. Photo: Michael Regan
8. Joe Willock - 8
A threat every time he gets the ball. And what a run and finish for the goal. Five for the Magpies now, four in his last four. His game is about so much more than goals, too. Photo: Alex Pantling
