Beleaguered Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren will meet with managing director Lee Charnley today as the club comes under increasing pressure to sack him.
McClaren’s position has been under threat since the pitiful performance in a 3-1 defeat at home to Bournemouth on Saturday saw the Magpies slip to second-bottom of the Premier League.
Charnley met with fellow board members Bob Moncur and Graham Carr on Monday although the head coach – also on the Toon board – wasn’t invited.
McClaren hasn’t met with Charnley since the weekend, but will come face to face with Mike Ashley’s right-hand man later this afternoon where he is expected to learn his fate.
Newcastle are understood to have sounded out a couple of managers about taking over for the final 10 games of the season, including Rafa Benitez and David Moyes.
