Liverpool are interested in a move for Newcastle United's Georginio Wijnaldum.

Rafa Benitez said this week that he wants Wijnaldum to stay at St James's Park.

And it would take a bid in excess of £20million to persuade the club to sell the 25-yearold, signed from title-winning PSV Eindhoven a year ago.

Everton, beaten to Wijnaldum's signature last summer, are again interested in the Holland international, who has also been linked with Tottenham Hotspur.

The Daily Star today report Liverpool's interest in Wijnaldum, who scored 11 Premier League goals for United in the 2015-16 campaign.

Asked about his future by the Gazette at the end of last season, he said: "I don't know.

“We will see. I’m still devastated that we will be relegated.

“To be fair, I don’t think about the future now. We will see where the future brings us.”

Wijnaldum, however, is mindful that playing in the Championship could harm his international career.
