Cardiff City boss Russell Slade says Sammy Ameobi needs to become stronger after revealing the lanky loan star can’t fit into the club’s tracksuit bottoms.
Slade says 6ft 4ins Ameobi, on loan from Newcastle United, is so tall his Cardiff staff “can’t get a pair of tracksuit bottoms to fit his legs.”
He says Ameobi wears long socks to “accommodate” them.
Winger Ameobi has been told he could become “a real handful” if he gets to work on his physique.
Slade said: “He can get more strength for sure, and if he’s going to figure more, which he will do with us, then he’s going to need that going forward.
“But I think that would help him immensely.
“We are working really hard with him on all aspects.
“He’s so much to offer, but I think we can get him stronger body-wise, and I think, physically, we can get him fitter.”
Ameobi made his full Cardiff debut in Tuesday’s League Cup win over Wimbledon.
The 23-year-old said: “Newcastle is my home and I love the city, but I needed to get out and grow up as a footballer.
“I was the local kid on the block at Newcastle, but I wanted to come out and put my stamp on a new club.
“Cardiff City offered me the chance, and I will do everything I can – on and off the pitch – to ensure I am successful.”
