The MASSIVE matchday revenue loss facing Newcastle United, West Ham and Aston Villa

An empty St James’s Park on match days will likely have a significant financial impact

Football clubs up and down the country received a stark warning on Tuesday that games could be played without fans for up to six months. A staged reintroduction of spectators has been postponed by the UK Government following new Covid-19 restrictions.

Newcastle United have now played half a dozen games without fans, including the recent defeat to Brighton. It is something Steve Bruce’s men will likely have to get used. Even in the Premier League, behind closed door games will have a sizeable impact on finances. Consulting the latest accounts posted clubs (2018/19), the 20 top-flight teams could lose out on up to £700million on matchday income if fans are not back in the stadium this season.
