Longstaff is out of contract – and assessing his options – following the expiry of his deal at Newcastle United.

The club has made what head coach Steve Bruce described as a “unbelievably good” offer to the midfielder, who was promoted to the first-team squad a year ago.

However, the 20-year-old also has other offers, notably from Udinese, and the Daily Telegraph claim that newly-promoted Leeds United are also interested in Longstaff, whose last Premier League start came on January 21.

Speaking last month, Bruce said: “The ball’s in Matty’s court. We cannot do any more, and obviously there’s a raging debate out there – ‘am I not picking him because of the contract situation?’. That’s not necessarily true. So I don’t know what more we can do. We made the kid an unbelievably good offer.”
