JOHN Carver has confirmed that Mehdi Abeid and Siem de Jong are back in training for Newcastle United.
Abeid has been out with a broken toe which forced him to pull out of the African Cup of Nations this month.
De Jong, meanwhile, has had a succession of injuries including a thigh problem which has kept him out since September.
However both have returned to training today, although won’t be available for the game against Southampton on Saturday – while winger Gabriel Obertan is also nearing full fitness after his dislocated shoulder.
Caretaker boss Carver said: “Mehdi Abeid and Siem de Jong trained for the first time today. Mehdi is further ahead than Siem.
“Gabriel Obertan is about two weeks away from joining in with the team. He’s in great condition and has worked really hard.”
