Mikel Merino handed Newcastle start, Joselu and Henri Saivet on bench

Rafa Benitez has named his starting XI for Newcastle United's visit to the John Smith's Stadium.

Benitez's side take on Huddersfield Town in a televised game this afternoon (1.30pm).

And United's manager, without the suspended Jonjo Shelvey, has handed Mikel Merino his first Premier League start.

New signing Joselu is on the bench along with forgotten midfielder Henri Saivet, who last played a competitive game for the club in February last year.

Jamaal Lascelles and Chancel Mbemba also come into the starting XI in place of injured pair Florian Lejeune and Paul Dummett.

Newcastle beat Huddersfield 3-1 at the John Smith's Stadium in March in a Championship fixture.
