The Hull City striker will become a free agent this summer when his contract expires.

And the Daily Mail claim that Newcastle are among the clubs interested in the 27-year-old, who returned to fitness last month after missing most of the season with a ruptured Achilles.

Hernandez has scored five goals from eight appearances since returning to fitness.

The Uruguay international joined Hull from Palermo four years ago. Hernandez has scored 36 league goals for the Championship club.

United manager Rafa Benitez – who signed Islam Slimani on loan from Leicester City in January – will look to sign a striker in the summer transfer window.

Benitez will hold talks on his own future, and that of the club, with owner Mike Ashley at the end of the season.

Newcastle are 10th in the Premier League, and safe from the threat of relegation, ahead of Saturday's home game against West Bromwich Albion.
