Newcastle continue to monitor West Brom striker as they're linked with France U19 star

Newcastle United will continue to monitor Salomon Rondon's situation at West Bromwich Albion '“ but spiralling costs may mean a move is unlikely.

Rondon has a release clause of £16.5million, but with high wages and agent fees, the overall cost of the transfer may price the Magpies out of the market.

Meanwhile, the Magpies have been linked with a £13million move for Swansea City attacker Jordan Ayew, and an interest in highly-rated Lyon forward Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Mateta, 20, spent last season on-loan at Le Havre – scoring an impressive 19 goals in just 16 Ligue 2 games.

The form of the France Under-19 international has alerted a number of Premier League clubs, with the likes of West Ham, Leicester and Everton also linked.
