Newcastle continue to monitor West Brom striker as they’re linked with France U19 star

Newcastle United will continue to monitor Salomon Rondon’s situation at West Bromwich Albion – but spiralling costs may mean a move is unlikely.

Rondon has a release clause of £16.5million, but with high wages and agent fees, the overall cost of the transfer may price the Magpies out of the market.

Meanwhile, the Magpies have been linked with a £13million move for Swansea City attacker Jordan Ayew, and an interest in highly-rated Lyon forward Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Mateta, 20, spent last season on-loan at Le Havre – scoring an impressive 19 goals in just 16 Ligue 2 games.

The form of the France Under-19 international has alerted a number of Premier League clubs, with the likes of West Ham, Leicester and Everton also linked.
