Newcastle hopeful Massadio Haidara will be fit to face Man United – despite knee problem

BLOW ... Massadio Haidara.
BLOW ... Massadio Haidara.

MASSADIO Haidara gave Newcastle United an injury scare in today’s 1-0 win over Aston Villa.

The defender pulled up in this afternoon’s home game and had to be stretchered off.

Haidara was replaced by fit-again Ryan Taylor with United leading through Papiss Demba Cisse’s first-half goal.

Newcastle head coach John Carver is down to the bare bones in defence after losing a number of players, including Steven Taylor and Paul Dummett, to injury.

Haidara has what Carver describes as an “ongoing issue” with his knee.

Carver, however, is hopeful Haidara will be available for Wednesday night’s home game against Manchester United.

After the game, Carver said: “It’s his knee. He’s got an ongoing issue with it, but it’s not too serious, so we will see what he’s like tomorrow.

“Hopefully, he should be available for Wednesday.”
