Newcastle United hope to secure Kenedy on loan this week.
The Chelsea winger helped the club finish 10th in the Premier League last season after arriving in January.
And the winger – who scored two goals for United – is one of Rafa Benitez’s main summer targets.
Asked in May if Kenedy would be back at the club, Benitez said: “We don’t know, it depends on Chelsea.”
Newcastle have held talks with Chelsea over another loan deal – and the 22-year-old is keen to return to St James’s Park.
Managerial uncertainty at Stamford Bridge, where Antonio Conte is still in place, had threatened to delay any move for Kenedy.
However, Kenedy could be back at the club in the coming days.
Kenedy – who had found his opportunities limited at Chelsea – enjoyed his time on Tyneside.
And the Brazilian posted a message to United fans on social media site Instagram at the end of last season.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Newcastle United,” said Kenedy.
“Thank you to all the players, every single person of the great staff, the coach Rafa Benitez who trusted me and gave me chance to play for this great club, which I very much enjoyed and, of course, to the all fans for the magnificent support.
“It was an amazing chapter in my life and I will never forget it. Howay the Toon!”
Meanwhile, United’s Jonjo Shelvey is looking to put his England disappointment behind him.
The midfielder, 26, missed out on a place in Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad.
“Don’t get me wrong I would have loved to have gone,” said Shelvey. “But there’s no point in dwelling on it now.
“It’s happened, and they’re doing fantastic over there. Congratulations to them.
“But, at the end of the day, my career is about myself, and I’ve got to make sure I put the performances in for Newcastle.”
