Dave Watson’s determined that his Newcastle United side avoid a FA Youth Cup upset at St James’s Park.
The club’s Under-18s take on AFC Wimbledon in a fourth-round tie tonight (7pm kick-off).
Newcastle beat Ilkeston in the last round of the competition, while the Dons upset the odds by knocking out Watford on penalties.
United Under-18s coach Watson said: “I wasn’t totally surprised – strange things happen in the cup.
“We’ve seen the game. They equalised in the last minute, took it to penalties and went through that way.
“That’s what great about this cup – it doesn’t matter what division you’re in, what big names you’ve got. It’s all about doing the job properly and winning the game on the night.”
The winners will play either Manchester United or Chelsea at home in the fifth round.
Admission to St James’s Park for the Wimbledon tie is £3 for adults and £1 for concessions.
