Newcastle may return in January for Danish defender after £8.5m bid rejected – reports

Newcastle United and Everton are reported to have had bids turned down for Werder Bremen centre-half Jannik Westergaard.

German media claim the Magpies have had a £8.5million offer for the 23-year-old rejected.

Vestergaard only joined from Hoffenheim for £1.8m in January and played 15 times last season after his move.

German outlet Bild say the player wasn’t interested in a move to Newcastle, while Everton also had a proposal rejected.

The Danish international is 6ft 6in and has been capped three times by his country.

The German transfer window shut yesterday but Newcastle boss Steve McClaren, and Everton. could return for the defender in January, according to reports.
