NEWCASTLE United’s derby hopes were rocked by an injury scare to Daryl Janmaat in the warm-up at the Stadium of Light.
Janmaat was seen limping off the pitch as the teams prepared for the Wear-Tyne clash.
The Dutchman went back to the changing rooms for treatment, with Newcastle having no defenders on the bench.
Teenage centre-half Lubo Satka wasn’t included among the substitutes, with midfielders Mehdi Abeid, Olivier Kemen and Vurnon Anita, and attackers Adam Armstrong, Emmanuel Riviere and Gabriel Obertan joining goalkeeper Rob Elliot.
Newcastle have Steven Taylor, Paul Dummett and Massadio Haidara out injured for the season, and skipper Fabricio Coloccini suspended, meaning right-back Janmaat was pressed into action as an emergency centre-half alomgside Mike Williamson.
