Newcastle United’s Mehdi Abeid is in Germany for talks with Fortuna Dusseldorf.
The midfielder is understood to be close agreeing a move to the Esprit Arena.
Abeid joined Newcastle from French club Lens four years ago.
But the 22-year-old, an unused substitute for Saturday’s game against Borussia Monchengladbach, has struggled to hold down a place.
The season before last, Abeid spent a successful year on loan at Panathinaikos.
Speaking last week, United head coach Steve McClaren admitted some players will have to leave the club this summer.
McClaren said: “We’ll sit down and assess the squad and try and think about 18 or 20 players.
“That’s who’ll we’ll pick from – they’re the ones – and we’ll decide on where the others go.
“Some will go out on loan, some we’ll try to sell.
“I think that conversation will come about very soon.”
