Newcastle United youngster Olivier Kemen is the subject of a €500,000 bid from French giants Monaco, according to reports.
The highly-rated midfielder joined the club from Metz two years ago and Steve McClaren told the Gazette earlier this month that his future lies at Newcastle.
But reports in France by L’Equipe say the Ligue 1 side want to sign the 19-year-old - who has also been the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and AC Milan this summer.
Kemen - yet to make a competitive first team appearance for Newcastle - only made one pre-season appearance for United because of his summer involvement with France’s Under-19s.
McClaren, who has previously likened him to Newcastle’s combative midfielder Cheick Tiote, said: “I like him.”
“I call him a young Cheicky, that type (of player).
“He’s come back late because of the France Under-19s. He’s been in and out of the first team, training with us.
“But I like him. He’s still only young, and still got a lot to do.”
When asked whether his future was in the North East, McClaren added: “Yes, definitely. He’s a good player.”
