Teenage striker Ivan Toney has joined Barnsley on loan.
Head coach Steve McClaren has decided to loan out summer signing Toney so he can gain more first-team experience.
Wolverhampton Wanderers and Burton Albion had been keen to take the 19-year-old, signed from Northampton Town in the summer, on a short-term deal.
But League One club Barnsley have signed the forward on a 28-day youth loan.
Toney made his first team debut for the Magpies as a substitute against his former club in the Capital One Cup in August before making his first Premier League appearance against Chelsea in September
A regular scorer for Newcastle United’s Under-21 side, he was also named September’s Barclays Under-21 Premier League Player of the Month.
Speaking last week, Toney said: “I’m just happy playing football whether it’s here or on loan.
“Whatever the manager decides, then so be it."
