Newcastle, Sunderland, Man United, Arsenal and Chelsea made today’s transfer headlines

NEWCASTLE United and Sunderland were linked with a new defender today, while Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea also made the transfer headlines.

The Sunday newspapers wre in full flow today with rumours of signings.

In particular, The Sunday Miror claimed both Newcastle and Sunderland are after Hull City’s Curtis Davies.

The paper said Newcastle have joined the chase to sign Hull’s captain. The centre-back, 29, is in demand, with Sunderland and Everton also both ready to pay £8m to prise him away from Hull.

Manchester United are back on the trail of their former midfielder Paul Pogba - now valued at around £60m by Italian champions Juventus. Pogba, 21, was a United target when David Moyes was in charge, and talks were at an advanced stage at the time the former manager was sacked. Sunday Express

Didier Drogba is set to return to Chelsea this summer. The 36-year-old striker is currently with Turkish club Galatasaray, but Blues manager Jose Mourinho has never disguised his desire to re-sign a player who left Stamford Bridge after the Champions League final in 2012. Sunday Mirror

Southampton will hold another round of talks next week with Ronald Koeman, 51, as the Dutchman emerges as the favourite to replace Mauricio Pochettino, 42, as manager. Mail on Sunday

Incoming Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has spoken of his admiration for Arturo Vidal, 27, and admitted the Chile and Juventus midfielder is a player he “always wanted to buy”. Vidal is wanted by a number of other clubs, including Real Madrid, Barcelona and Chelsea. Mail on Sunday
