Alassane Plea has completed a £22milion move to Borussia Monchengladbach.
Newcastle United had a bid for Plea rejected by Nice earlier this month.
And the club were expected to return with an improved offer for the 25-year-old, who has scored 44 goals in all competitions since joining Nice from Olympique Lyonnais four years ago.
However, the striker today completed a move to Bundesliga side Gladbach.
"We're delighted that this transfer has gone through and that our efforts to beat off a number of prestigious other clubs have been rewarded," said Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl.
"Alassane desperately wanted to come to Borussia. He's a versatile, fast and intelligent forward who has already underlined his qualities in Ligue 1 and in the Europa League."
