Newcastle unable to recall Jamaal Lascelles to strengthen stricken defence

JAMAAL Lascelles cannot be recalled by relegation-threatened Newcastle United for the last three games of the season – even though Nottingham Forest’s season is over.

Daryl Janmaat and Mike Williamson were sent off in yesterday’s 3-0 defeat to Leicester City.

And the pair – both shown second yellow cards for bringing down Jamie Vardy – will be suspended for Saturday’s home game against West Bromwich Albion.

Williamson – who head coach Carver felt had been sent of “on purprose” – will also be banned for the following weekend’s game against Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road, having been dismissed at Villa Park early this season.

Their absence will leave head coach John Carver with a shortage of defenders for the West Brom game, and there has been talk of a recall for Lascelles given that Forest’s campaign is now over.

The 21-year-old was signed from the Championship club last summer and loaned back for another season at the City Ground.

Lascelles had to be named in the club’s Premier League squad because of a technicality relating to his age, but, as reported by the Gazette in March, he is unable to play for the club until the start of next season.

Newcastle are deep in relegation trouble after a run of eight successive defeats.
