Newcastle United reportedly have a first refusal over young Carlisle United centre-half Jarrad Branthwaite.

The defender has previously been linked with a move to Newcastle, and is said to be interesting both Celtic and Rangers, in a move that would reportedly cost around £1m.

However, according to the Northern Echo Newcastle United are said to have first refusal on the talented youngster due to the previous loan deal that took striker Elias Sorensen to Brunton Park.

Only 17-years-old, a move to St James’ Park would be a big step up for the defender.
