Rafa Benitez hopes to be back at the helm at Newcastle United ahead of Sunday's game against Swansea City.

The club's manager missed training on Tuesday and yesterday after undergoing an operation late last week.

Benitez's coaches have been overseeing training in his absence.

Meanwhile, Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul, on a season-long loan at Brighton and Hove Albion, has taken a look back at his career at St James's Park.

Here's your daily briefing:

Benitez had a procedure last week related for a previous hernia operation.

The 57-year-old has been recuperating at home on Merseyside.

However, Benitez is said to be "adamant" that he will be back at the club ahead of the Swansea game at the Liberty Stadium.

Benitez, pencilled in to speak to the media tomorrow afternoon, was not at the training ground today.

United are still waiting to assess defender Chancel Mbemba, who was injured on international duty this week.

Palermo to Premier League

Tim Krul last week joined Brighton and Hove Albion on a season-long loan.

With Krul's contract expiring next summer, the move all but brought an end to the goalkeeper's long career at Newcastle.

The 29-year-old – who made 160 Premier League appearances for the club over an 11-year first-team career – has picked seven highlights from his time on Tyneside.

Big seller

Newcastle winger Matt Ritchie had his name on more shirts than Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar this summer, according to Sports Direct.

Mike Ashley's firm have published a list of it's top-selling shirts.

And Ritchie is, maybe surprisingly, in 13th place – two spots above Real Madrid's Ronaldo – while the late Cheick Tiote is 29th.

And finally...

United defender Javier Manquillo's twin brother has signed for a Northern League club.
