Newcastle United are said to be at the ‘front of the queue’ to sign highly-rated Charlton Athletic striker Macauley Bonne.

24-year-old Bonne is a Zimbabwean international, and he has also been linked to high-flying Leicester City, as well as Championship promotion chasers Fulham.

Leicestershire Live report that the sides are fighting to land Bonne, but Steve Bruce and Newcastle are leading the chase as they can offer him a more realistic chance of starting.

The Foxes of course boast Jamie Vardy and former Newcastle man Ayoze Perez in their frontline, while Fulham also have a former St James’ Park forward in Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Bonne is a vital player for the Addicks, who are rapidly sliding down the Championship table after an initially promising start.
