Newcastle United given FA Cup hope ahead of Premier League restart

Newcastle United reached the quarter-finals of the competition for the first time since Mike Ashley bought the club before the coronavirus pandemic saw football suspended in March. The club’s last eight tie against Premier League champions Manchester City at St James’s Park was postponed, and it was feared that this season’s competition would not be completed.

However, PA Sport claim that FA chief executive Mark Bullingham has told FA Council members that the intention remains to wrap up the knockout competition after Premier League clubs returned to small-group, socially distanced training ahead of a proposed mid-June restart.

Howevr, the remaining ties, including the final, would have to be played behind closed doors.

Newcastle knocked out Rochdale, Oxford United and West Bromwich Albion to reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
