Alan Shearer was in South Tyneside last night to lend his support to South Shields FC.

Newcastle United's all-time record goalscorer helped usher in a new era at Mariners Park.

“The team is also on an incredible run," said Shearer. "It’s good to have something to shout about in the North East, because our other clubs aren’t doing so well."

Shearer also had a message for Newcastle ahead of tomorrow's game against Leicester City at St James's Park.

Meanwhile, captain Fabricio Coloccini has responded to criticism of his leadership at United ahead of the Premier League match, which follows a 1-0 win over Bournemouth.

“We have strong characters in this team – that’s not something I’m worried about,” said Coloccini.

Head coach Steve McClaren has also laughed off a claim that midfielder Cheick Tiote was 'poison'.

McClaren will hold his pre-match Press conference later today, and you check out updates here.
