Newcastle United are working "tirelessly" behind the scenes in this month's transfer window, according to Steve McClaren.

The club, which is looking to sign a proven goalscorer, is yet to make a breakthrough.

But Olympique Lyonnais striker Alexandre Lacazette, linked with a move to St James's Park yesterday, won't be coming to St James's Park.

Another option is Chelsea's Loic Remy, who could be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge on a six-month loan.

But former Newcastle striker Andy Carroll will NOT be leaving West Ham United this month, according to Slaven Bilic, the club's manager.

Meanwhile, details of the contract head coach McClaren signed at Newcastle in June have been leaked.

And a United defender has revealed why he will have to leave the club to make a "step up" in his career.
