A former high-profile Newcastle United transfer target has been placed on the transfer list by his club today.
Clement Grenier was the subject of a £12million bid by the Magpies back in January 2014 as United sought a replacement for Yohan Cabaye.
The offer for the Lyon playmaker was rejected, however, and the following summer Newcastle signed Remy Cabella instead of returning for Grenier.
Now, the French international has slipped down the pecking order at Lyon following the signings of Mathieu Valbuena and Sergi Darder, and has now been transfer-listed by Lyon.
If Newcastle stay in the Premier League, could he become another one of Graham Carr’s French fancies?
Elsewhere, Alan Shearer has been talking about whether he would be willing to replace Rafa Benitez should Newcastle fall into the Championship.
The Newcastle legend had an eight-game spell as manager when the Magpies were relegated back in 2009.

Meanwhile, Benitez has set his sights on a return to Anfield on Saturday.
The former Liverpool boss is still a hero on Merseyside after winning the Champions League during his time with the Reds, but is fully committed to Newcastle now.
He said: “My connection with Liverpool is good. I hope they do really well in the Europa League and we can get the three points.”
