Newcastle United hope to finalise the signing of Hull City's Mohamed Diame today.
The midfielder is on Tyneside for a medical after the club activated his £4.5million release clause at the KCOM Stadium.
Hull had offered him a new three-year deal in a bid to keep him on Humberside.
But he travelled to Tyneside and was pictured at a Newcastle hospital by a Twitter user @Allenocon's mother, whose selfie with Diame went viral this afternoon.
Diame could sign in time to be involved against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Friday night.
And the defender is also understood to be on Tyneside for a medical.
United made another signing yesterday, with goalkeeper Freddie Woodman having inked a new long-term deal at the club.
Meanwhile, around 8,000 fans attended an open day at St James's Park yesterday.
Goalkeeper Matz Sels, signed from Gent this summer, spoke to the Gazette after the session.
Finally, former United defender Steven Taylor has been speaking about his move to Major League Soccer club Portland Timbers.
